The Faraway Nearby
Phoebe Kelly's The Faraway Nearby is a free exhibition of image-based works in the James McCaughey Foyer at Gasworks Creative Precinct. The works use the net as a metaphor for gathering and holding memory, drawing on the myth of Manannán mac Lir, a water deity who kept his treasures in nets that filled and emptied with the tide. Kelly makes the pieces with analogue processes, including lumen prints, argyrotype and darkroom c-type printing, turning her own archive of images into ghostly, net-like forms. Drop in any day during gallery hours (10am to 4pm) between 27 October and 15 November; the space is wheelchair accessible.
